The Second Screen

Have you all heard about the second screen? No? Well, how about this, have you ever watched TV while working on your laptop, smartphone or tablet? Well then, congratulations, you are part of the second screen experience! Advertisers across the globe are looking for people just like you to use the second screen. TV shows these past few seasons have begun to implement these types of features. They can help you shop for your favorite character’s clothing or take you behind the scenes of your favorite shows. It’s a pretty impressive interactive environment. The second screen shows you how to be interactive with shows such as the awesome Shazam application (it doesn’t just find the titles of music on the radio).

There is also this relatively new app called Viggle. Viggle gives you points for just tuning in to the shows that you were already excited about. The points can be redeemed for gift cards and also the luxurious Kindle Fire! If you have not looked into these apps on your super awesome electronic device, then you are not meeting your electronics (and your wallet) are not meeting their full potential. If you do not believe me then check out this great infographic regarding the 2012 London Olympics compared to the 2008 Beijing Olympics. This will be the future of how we perceive television. It will no longer be just one sided, but each show will be a unique experience for the individual user where they can share what they have learned in the social space.
TV Everywhere is the current step to this type of social integration. TV Everywhere is an authentication service where people who subscribe to television programs through major MSOs (Comcast, Dish, Time Warner, Cablevision, etc…) can watch TV, well, everywhere. This gives the subscriber a unique and personal involvement with each television show.

    • Haha thanks for reading! I have to remind myself to use the application from time to time because I forget about it. Also, I have attempted to create my own infographics, but others are just so much better and a lot less time consuming to make and edit haha
